neon sign final

a quick project to make our neon sign feel seamless and built in. you can find a video version of this project here!

we got this neon sign for our wedding in 2019, and knew it would be a good investment to use in our future home! we were right! we threw this up in our dining room, but there were wires literally everywhere and it wasn't looking very cute. so we stared at it and decided there has to be a better way

the idea

essentially, we wanted it to feel pretty seamless with hidden wire management. here's the before:

not super cute right?

so we decided to get some wood and make it feel a little elevated off the wall like. a piece of art, and so that we could easily hide the wires!

process

I got to prepping a giant sheet of wood, sketched out my existing mural, and started painting it all on so it would be ready once it hit the wall! meanwhile, my dad built the frame and started figuring out how to mount it on the wall (with some help from my non-handy-dandy-husband).

my dad also used a undone wire coat hanger to string the wiring through the wall down to the wall plug, so it wouldn't be hanging. (made some big holes along the way as well!)

after all these prep tasks were done, we got to screwing the neon sign into place before hanging it, and then connecting all the wires, and mounting it.

once it was up I wood filled, caulked, and painting over the holes to make it feel seamless!

reveal

finally, the project was done and the big reveal felt SO good in our little space! if you want to see it in motion check out the video here.
